~Story~
Cold and ambitious, he was once the ruthless general of Prince Iliauben’s army, and one of the few survivors of the Great Tragedy on Saberondan many years ago. Consumed by a torment of guilt at the death of his beloved prince and an anguished, savage desire to create a delusional reality in which he can redeem his failures, he is now a madman walking in the company of phantoms, spurred relentlessly toward revenge.
Securing the aid of the savage, outcast tribes from Whiddah and the feverish seer Mirkyn, Ryvan gathers the remnants of Thauron’s scattered forces in retaliation on the vulnerable kingdom of Silon, whose people he blames for the death of his prince. Claiming the throne through murder, Ryvan floods the cities with his dark troops, intent on enslaving the silenes and rebuilding his fleet for a triumphant return to his distant homeland. Mirkyn warns him that such a thing will come to naught, that the land itself will blot him out as surely as it had his prince before him, but Ryvan refuses to listen. He cannot see that it is his own actions, and those of his former prince, that undermine Thauron’s last attempt at conquering Avenan. He will watch his brave forces scattered a second time, the last thread of his sanity severed as his mangled body is dragged into obscurity, but before his death, he will witness the turbulent rise of his wild son, Morgan, the only child he had fathered during his brief, brutal reign. The shadows that follow this boy will spread like a plague throughout the whole world and at last grant Ryvan a final sense of justice.
