Second general of Silon’s army after the death of Nanye, she is a wise, stern, and fiercely proud woman. Lithely built and stronger than most men, she commands the respect of allies and enemies alike. She has earned a grim reputation as a deadly fighter, knowing virtually every inch of the kingdom she defends, and as the young Princess Shion‘s defender during the Outcast War, she particularly delights in outwitting the enemy scouts sent to hunt her out. When the Rover sends a gangly and inexperienced boy to pose as Echana and spearhead the revolt against their oppressors, she takes it as a joke and torments Falen to no end, convinced that he is an enemy spy. She makes his quest a difficult and punishing one, until his enduring spirit finally earns him some reprieve. But even after the war her opinion of the boy hardly changes, though she refrains from endangering his life once he becomes consort to the queen. Despite Falen’s best efforts to gain her favor, she will always see him as ignorant, naïve, impetuous and unrefined, and forever in need of her counsel and instruction. But the superiority she radiates comes from many years of experience and unswerving devotion to the protection of her kingdom, and her wisdom is invaluable to Shion. She remains a loyal and supportive guardian, general, and mother-figure to the young queen, though her indomitable strength hides a tragedy of her own that remains unspoken throughout most of her life.
